At Westlea Primary School we seek to inspire in children a curiosity and fascination about the world and its people which will remain with them for the rest of their lives. We aim to develop the children’s knowledge of places, people and environments (both natural and manmade) and their understanding of the ways in which places are dependent upon each other and connected with other. Children investigate a diverse range of places to help develop their knowledge and understanding of the Earth’s physical and human processes. We are committed to providing children with opportunities to investigate and make enquiries about their local area so that they can develop of real sense of their place in the world, their heritage and what makes our local area unique and special. We are also developing the children’s ability to apply geographical skills and enabling them to confidently communicate their findings and geographical understanding. We want our children to enjoy learning about geography by developing their knowledge and skills, not just through experiences in the classroom, but also with the use of fieldwork and educational visits.
