KS1 – Class 3

We are delighted to welcome our Year 1 children into Key Stage 1 and to support our Year 2 children to continue their journey in Class 3. Mrs James is the teacher and Miss Bloomfield, Mrs Slee and Miss Potter are the Teaching Assistants. Our Year 1 and Year 2 children work towards Key Stage 1 National Curriculum objectives in small guided groups so that our experienced staff can support and challenge them. We also have various role play and investigation areas in class linked to our curriculum objectives which will ensure that your child is learning through their play while continuing to develop their communication and social skills.

Reading and phonics are key focus areas in Key Stage 1. We use ‘Read Write Inc!’ and English lessons to teach the skills needed to become a confident reader and writer. We have daily mathematics sessions, following the White Rose curriculum as well as ‘Mastering Numeracy’ sessions to encourage fluency in counting and number patterns. We teach science, geography, history, art and D&T through topics. In the autumn term our topic is ‘What Makes Me, Me!’ We find out about our bodies and senses; we look at the area around our school and investigate the differences between toys now and in the past. In the spring term our topic is ‘Paddington Bear’. We learn all about the countries in the UK and their capital cities. While learning about London the children love to find out about the causes of the Great Fire of London in 1666. In the summer term our topic is ‘Dinosaur Detectives’. We learn about hot and cold places and the animals (including dinosaurs) that live there. Computing, PSHE, RE and music are also taught throughout the year.

The staff in Class 3 work together to help your children to enjoy school and make good progress throughout the year. Of course, learning is a journey best shared and we welcome you at any time if you have any concerns or suggestions regarding your child. You may contact us via the school office or by messaging on Seesaw.
