In Class 3, Mrs James is the teacher and Miss Bloomfield is the Teaching Assistant. Our Year 1 children work towards Key Stage One National Curriculum objectives in small guided groups so that our experienced staff can support and challenge them. We also have various role play and investigation areas in class linked to our curriculum objectives which will ensure that your child is learning through their play while continuing to develop their communication and social skills.
Reading and phonics are key focus areas in Year 1. We use ‘Read Write Inc!’ and English lessons to teach the skills needed to become a confident reader and writer. We have daily mathematics sessions, following the White Rose curriculum as well as ‘Mastering Numeracy’ sessions to encourage fluency in counting and number patterns. We teach computing, science, PE, PSHCE, geography, history, music, art and RE through topics that are based on the children’s interests.
