Year 6 is a truly milestone year, it is the final chapter of primary school before our pupils make that exciting leap to secondary school.  This special year is all about helping children grow, build confidence, and bring together all of the skills they have learned throughout their time with us.  We do this by developing the whole child through exciting academic subjects, sport, music, art, drama and leadership roles in school.

To bring lessons to life, we love taking our pupils on school trips for hands-on, “real-life” experiences, or inviting experts to come and talk to them. We find that learning outside the classroom not only makes lessons unforgettable but also does wonders for developing important social skills.

At Westlea Primary School, we believe a residential trip is an invaluable experience for every child. Late in the Summer term, our Year 6 pupils head off to Newby Wiske Hall for an action-packed 3-day adventure.  It is a fabulous opportunity for outdoor fun that helps children grow in independence, build team-working skills, and make lifelong memories.

During the year, pupils prepare both academically and emotionally for their SATs. Our absolute priority is to ensure every child feels fully supported, encouraged, and challenged to do their personal best. We want them to feel completely ready and relaxed when the time comes, which is why we offer plenty of guidance through extra tuition, thoughtful homework, and focused classwork.

To help our pupils reach their full potential, we love to see that same enthusiasm for learning continue at home. We ask that homework is always completed with the same care and effort as classwork.
